Title: Youth Experiences of Violence at Home, School, and Street in Disadvantaged Urban Neighborhoods of Islamabad, Pakistan: Troika of Violence Authors: Shah, Rahat; Hayat, Asif; Zaman, Muhammad; Sabir, Imran Abstract: Youth and Violence have mostly been correlated with either neighborhood, school, or street environment. The current study aims at exploring how the violent experiences of youth at home, school and the street are interconnected, an area of study that has been overlooked in previous studies. Thirty in-depth interviews were conducted with violent youth aged between 14 and 21 years in two disadvantaged urban neighborhoods of Islamabad. The findings show that youth had cyclical experience of violence on three fronts including their homes, schools, and streets in Islamabad. The analysis led us to term these consequential violent experiences among Pakistani youth as the “Troika” of violence. The troika of violence, thus, engages an individual in its vicious cycle, where shared standards of street code become desirable attributes for the youth of disadvantaged neighborhood at home, school, and the street.

Title: Determinants of the Sustainable Entrepreneurial Engagement of Youth in Developing Country—An Empirical Evidence from Pakistan Authors: Tunio, Muhammad Nawaz; Chaudhry, Iffat Sabir; Shaikh, Sadia; Jariko, Mushtaque Ali; Brahmi, Mohsen Abstract: The article identifies the motivating factors behind the career preferences of university graduates who chose to engage in sustainable entrepreneurship. In this research, multi-methods— theoretical investigations and qualitative interviews—have been utilized to determine the factors responsible for promoting sustainable entrepreneurship in a developing region. The sample consisted of university graduates who chose to pursue their careers in entrepreneurial activities in Hyderabad, the sixth largest city of Pakistan located in Sindh Province. While determining why young academics choose entrepreneurship as a career choice, entrepreneurial careers are explored as an ongoing process of biographical sequences in which new ways of thinking and communication, new forms of economic and occupational challenges, and necessities as well as ways of success and failure are permanently claimed or raised. Due to these challenges, the youth are confronted with complex social and economic situation to deal with. The study findings provide guidelines on how sustainable entrepreneurship can be developed, engaged, and sustained in the future in developing and underdeveloped regions.

Title: Factors affecting the anxiety levels of adolescents in home-quarantine during COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey Authors: Kılınçel, S¸enay; Kılınçel, O guzhan; Muratda gı, Gürkan; Aydın, Abdülkadir; Usta, Miraç Barıs¸ Abstract: Background: The long-term closing of schools and home-quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic cause negative effects on the physical and mental health of young people. Studies evaluating the mental health of adolescents during the pandemic are limited in the literature. Aim: In our study, it was aimed to determine the results of home-quarantine measures taken for adolescents during the pandemic and the affecting factors. Method: This study was conducted as an online cross-sectional self-report questionnaire and included children aged between 12 and 18 years. The data were obtained from the children of volunteer families via Facebook family groups, and Google Forms questionnaires sent by the child psychiatry clinic to their smartphones. Sociodemographic form, State-Trait anxiety scale, and UCLA loneliness survey were used as data collection tools. Results: We examined the data of 745 adolescents. The average age of the study group was 16.83 ± 1.66 years, and 69.5% were females. It was determined that 88.2% of the adolescents followed the developments in the COVID-19 process and obtained most information from the television. State anxiety was related to “Former psychiatric referral” by 4.39-fold, “Having a COVID positive patient in the family or your surroundings” by 3.81-fold, and “The most common medium for obtaining COVID-related information” by 2.41-fold. Conclusions: Closure of schools and home-quarantine during pandemic causes anxiety and loneliness in young people. The identification of risky groups helps to properly support these individuals by various social connections, including healthcare professionals, families, and schools.
