Algorithmic Reduction of Migrants in Susan Abulhawa’s Against the Loveless World and Omar El Akkad’s What Strange Paradise

Abstract

The research study unveils that migrant subjects are produced through digital data by diminishing their individual identity through border processes. The analysis is significant for exploring the “digital–nondigital assemblages” of border practices that lead towards the reduction of subjectivity of the migrants in the selected contemporary narratives. The research contributes in the domain of literary research by deepening the understanding of the portrayal of digital practices of bordering. The research study remains steadfast to give voice to the individual subjectivity of migrants so that they could live beyond digital systems and non-digital records, and policies could be designed on humanitarian grounds rather than protecting man-made borders and alliances to maintain power dynamics.
